  5.      Thank you for your interest in Smart R8 Control.  The Smart R8 Control
  6.      program is designed to both simplify and enhance shortwave listening
  7.      on the Drake R8 Communications Receiver.  Smart R8 Control integrates
  8.      a database of frequency information with the power of remotely con-
  9.      trolling the receiver.  Smart R8 Control emulates most of the R8's
  10.      front panel controls, adding the capabilities of tuning by user se-
  11.      lected increments and controlling an attached tape recorder; while
  12.      adding the name of the station you're listening to and a dual 24-hour
  13.      clock (local/UTC) to the continuous display.

  15.      Aside from displaying the station you're tuned to, Smart R8 Control
  16.      allows smart queries to the integrated frequency database.  Using an
  17.      internally designed windowing environment, Smart R8 Control allows the
  18.      user to choose from a list of stations broadcasting at that time.
  19.      Once a station is selected, a separate window is created containing
  20.      that station's list of current frequencies and target areas.  The user
  21.      can now automatically tune the receiver by selecting a frequency from
  22.      the list.  A marking feature is included, to allow the user to high-
  23.      light particularly reliable frequencies in the list.

  33.      The user is licensed to operate the software free of charge, for the
  34.      purposes of inspection, for a period of sixty (60) days.  After the 60
  35.      day period expires, the user is expected to pay the nominal registra-
  36.      tion charge of twenty-five United States dollars (US$25).  Checks or

  45.      Support of this shareware product ensures its continued development
  46.      and dissemination.  As a bonus for registering Smart R8 Control, the
  47.      user will receive future updates to the software, free of charge.  As
  48.      an extra added bonus, the registering party will receive two free com-
  49.      panion utilities that will allow the user to maintain the shortwave
  50.      frequency database provided:

  52.      SCT.EXE - Allows the user to update and compile the shortwave database
  53.      with user data and frequency schedule changes.

  55.      SCR.EXE - Allows the user to print the full shortwave database in a
  56.      neatly collated two-column newspaper style format.

  58.      SCP.EXE - Allows the user to predict HF propagation conditions to a
  59.      particular station or area of the world.

  61.      SCUTIL.DOC - Documentation and special instructions for operating the
  62.      above three companion utilities.
